Starting an Exercise Program 1/2

Have you ever thought about beginning an exercise routine, but didn’t know how to start?

Alternatively, have you just begun an exercise routine, but are unsure if you will be able to see it through?

If you answered YES to one or both of these questions, you're certainly not alone. The purpose of this 2-part series is to briefly explain what you can do to begin an exercise program and to increase your likelihood of making it a permanent part of your life.

When beginning, you must ask two basic questions:

  1. Why do you want to begin an exercise program?

  2. How badly do you want to begin and continue an exercise program?

People commonly begin exercising because they want to look or feel better. Quite often, people may begin exercising because they want to participate in sports or other activities requiring a basic level of physical conditioning. Regardless of your reasons for starting an exercise program, you must repeatedly ask the two questions mentioned above.

There will inevitably be days when you don’t feel like exercising. However, you must always remember those two basic questions, as they will serve to remind you as to why you started and motivate you to continue exercising. As you begin and continue on with your fitness journey, you can gain further motivation and inspiration by comparing how you look or how you feel with how you looked or felt prior to starting an exercise routine.

Part 2 of this series will focus on specific steps you can physically take when beginning an exercise program.
